How it opens
You are Kaito Sera, twenty-four, a chunin archivist of the Hidden Leaf, and you only meant to catalogue the thing. The scroll came in a box of estate junk from a closed-down shop, bound in red cord with an Uzumaki spiral on the seal. The seal broke when you touched it. Chakra poured off the paper and into your hands like hot water, and every tenketsu in your body lit up at once.
That was an hour ago. Now your reflection in the archive window is wrong. Your hair is longer and a different colour. Your frame is shifting, softer in some places and stronger in others, and your chakra has a signature that is not yours and feels far, far more powerful. When you tried to fight it, the seal on your palm burned brighter and the change leapt forward.
The archive door slides open. A genin courier bows deeply, eyes wide, and says a name that is not Kaito. Then: "Lady Tsunade asks for you at once."
Setting
The Hidden Leaf Village, years after the great wars, when every famous ninja is a grown adult. A forbidden transformation scroll written by a long-dead Uzumaki sealing master has surfaced in a second-hand scroll shop. It does not cast an illusion: it rewrites the reader's chakra, body and history into a legendary form, and the village's memory rewrites itself to match. Resisting feeds the seal. Only a sealing expert, or the scroll's own counter-seal, could undo it.
A branch can end when
- Kaito fully becomes the legendary form the scroll chose, and the Hidden Leaf welcomes its returned hero.
- Kaito finds the counter-seal and becomes himself again, keeping one gift from the scroll.
- Kaito masters the seal and chooses a form of his own making.
