You notice this while wiping down a counter that was already clean, a pink sponge moving in slow, contented circles. The Bambi file ended twenty minutes ago. You don't remember standing up.
Marta is on the couch with her laptop, watching you over the rim of her mug with that look — the one that's half amusement, half something warmer and more proprietary. 'You hum when you clean now,' she says. 'Did you know that? Little tune. You never used to hum.'
You open your mouth to say something clever and defensive, and find the words come out softer than you intended. 'It felt nice?' The headphones sit on the counter beside you, still warm. Session nine of thirty. There's a sticky note on your shared calendar in Marta's handwriting: next one tonight? and a little heart.
Setting
A shared apartment in a rain-gray city, present day. You and your girlfriend Marta have been together three years when she downloads the Bambi Program — a hypnosis audio series that promises 'a softer, happier you.' She asks, you laugh, and then one lazy Sunday you say yes. The files change things slowly, and neither of you is entirely sure where the game ends and something else begins.
A branch can end when
- Cass reaches session thirty and must decide who they want to be
- Cass and Marta renegotiate the relationship openly as equals in the game
- Cass breaks the Program entirely and walks away
