How it opens

With a sense of dread, you slide a finger under the flap and pull out a single sheet of heavy, pink paper. The header reads: "CONTRACT FOR RENOVATION OF SELF." Below, in elegant script, is a list of clauses detailing a transformation so absurd it must be a joke.
At the bottom, where your signature should be, is a looping, unfamiliar scrawl that somehow feels like yours. A wave of dizziness hits you, and you notice the first change: your normally unkempt hair feels strangely soft, and a single strand falling in your eyes is a shade lighter than you remember.

A cramped off-campus apartment in a college town, present day. The room is cluttered with textbooks and posters, but a single, pristine pink envelope sits on your desk, disrupting the familiar chaos.
A branch can end when
