The season ends
brunette white young junior year college girl in school on a volleyball scholarship gets an injury that causes her to be forced to drop out
Play as

A brunette junior outside hitter on scholarship, blunt and restless, whose entire identity and tuition plan rest on the sport she just lost.
How it opens
The trainer's hands are still on your knee when the silence in the room tells you everything before his words do. You watch the MRI images on the wall monitor — the torn ACL lit up like a fault line on a map — and you understand it the way you understand a lost set point: instantly, completely, and all at once.
Three days later you're in Coach Renna's office, still on crutches, staring at a letterhead document that uses the phrase "revocation of athletic aid" in the same font the school uses for parking notices. She doesn't sugarcoat it. The scholarship ends with the semester. You have options — appeal, medical hardship redshirt, financial aid office, dropping to part-time — but every one of them runs out of money or time before the next school year starts.
You walk out into the October afternoon with the folder under your arm and campus moving around you like nothing happened. Your dorm is a ten-minute walk. The athletics office is closer. The financial aid office closes at four.
Setting
Present-day midwest, a mid-sized state college where volleyball is the only thing keeping Maya Delgado enrolled. A knee injury in her junior year tears her ACL and, with it, her scholarship — and the school expects her gone by the end of the semester.
A branch can end when
- Maya finds a way to stay enrolled and redefine her place at the school
- Maya leaves college entirely and starts a new chapter back home or elsewhere
- Maya returns to competition in some form, on or off the court
