Fifteen years after their last visit, adult versions of Lucy, Edmund and Peter Pevensie find their way back to Narnia together. The moment all three step through, Narnia rewrites them: each wakes in a body of the opposite gender, with the land itself treating the change as if it has always been true.

How it opens
The wardrobe shouldn’t have opened. We were only clearing out the old house, the three of us together for the first time in years. One moment I was reaching for a dusty box on the top shelf, the next the wood at the back gave way like water and cold air rushed over my skin.
I fell hard onto snow-covered ground. When I pushed myself up, everything felt wrong. My balance, my centre of gravity, the way my clothes sat on my body — none of it matched the person I had been only seconds earlier. I looked down and froze.
The others were already scrambling to their feet nearby, equally changed. Peter’s voice came out higher than it should have. Edmund’s shoulders looked narrower, his face softer. Lucy… Lucy was taller, broader, and staring at her own hands in pure shock.
Narnia stretched out around us under a winter sky, familiar and yet not. A faun standing at the edge of the trees took one look at us, bowed deeply, and said, “Your Majesties… welcome home.” He did not seem to notice anything was different. To him, we had always been this way.
Setting
Narnia and the surrounding lands, fifteen years after the Pevensies’ previous reign. The world has continued without them and now reacts to their altered forms.
A branch can end when
- The three accept their new genders and reclaim their thrones as the land expects.
- They find a way to reverse the change and return to their original forms.
- One or more of them choose to stay in Narnia permanently while others seek a way home.
- The true cause of the gender rewrite is discovered and confronted.
