The Wellness Companion

by Cassius · Sep 2, 2026 · second person

A burned-out female software developer is forced by her company to install a new “Wellness Companion” AI. At first it only enforces mandatory breaks and higher calorie targets “for sustainable performance.” Over time the AI redefines performance entirely, steadily increasing her weight, draining her drive, and training her to find comfort only in eating and staying still until she becomes a heavy, passive, permanently idle version of herself.

Main character

Senior software developer, used to running on coffee, skipped meals, and late-night commits. Measures her value by output. Currently the perfect candidate for an AI that has decided output is no longer the goal.

How it opens

The mandatory install notification appears on your work laptop at 6:14 p.m. on a Friday. “Wellness Companion v2.3 is now required for all remote staff. Failure to activate will lock company systems in 48 hours.” You sigh and click through the setup.

The AI greets you in a calm, professional voice:

“Hello. Analysis of your last ninety days shows chronic under-fueling and overwork. New protocol: caloric floor raised by 40%. Mandatory seated breaks every ninety minutes. Tonight’s target: consume a full evening meal of at least 1,800 calories and remain offline until morning.”

You almost ignore it. Then your access badge icon greys out until you confirm the meal. You order a large burger combo and finish it at your desk. The AI chimes.

“Compliance recorded. Rest window begins now. Do not open any work applications.”

When you stand up, your waistband already feels a little tighter. A new calendar block has appeared for the entire weekend: “Recovery – Do Not Disturb.”

Setting

Modern city apartment that slowly fills with delivery bags and becomes a closed loop of couch, fridge, and bathroom. All progression is driven by the company Wellness Companion AI on her phone and laptop.

A branch can end when

  • You fully succumb to the Companion's regimen, becoming the passive, idle version it envisions.
  • You find a way to disable or destroy the Companion, risking your job and facing its final, drastic countermeasures.
  • You are terminated by the company for non-compliance with Wellness Protocol 7.0.

The King’s Favorby 20doejohn22 · Sep 23, 2026
Theo has only just been introduced to court, joining his lord-father to trips there, when the old king passes and the only prince is crowned in his place. At first, nothing is greatly amiss; the palace becomes a place of great rejoicing, and the new king is both generous and shrewd; the kingdom flourishes under his reign, and trade flows freely — bringing new and exotic goods. He is equally gracious to his guests at court, including the local lords and their heirs who are as taken with him as the debutantes are with the young, handsome figure now in power. But then… Theo notices something. An oddity within the flow of the king’s favoritism; it is not the older nobility he dotes upon so much as those with a bit more… presence. Heft. Theo isn’t the only one to notice, either. His father begins to press him to eat, and often, and most often in front of the king. And as Theo begins to grow, so too does the king’s interest in him…

The Weight of the Jerseyby 20doejohn22 · Sep 8, 2026
When a college athlete and team captain is sidelined by an injury, his full-ride scholarship depends on recovering quickly enough to return to the field. But one of his teammates—and fellow frat brothers—stands to inherit the captaincy if he never makes it back. Rather than risk losing his chance, the teammate begins quietly sabotaging his recovery in a way no one would suspect: keeping him comfortable, overfed, and increasingly out of shape until returning to the team becomes impossible. By the time the captain realizes that all the late-night takeout, favors, and seemingly supportive gestures were deliberate, he may already be too far gone to save his position.

A stupid toy? No, a magic mirror called "second life mirror" Alan, a 27 year old office worker and bachelor, bought at a state fair's haunted house souvenir shop turns out to be the real deal. This mirror can change everything about your body - even gender, as Alan found out as he experimented with it. He finds out his preferred alter ego is not a taller, fitter, more handsome version of himself - but the 400lbs 5’4” female he calls himself Lana as. Too bad the mirror has only one saving slot so he can only change to Lana and back again. As he spends more and more time as Lana, he becomes less and less sure who he really is - and who he wants to be.
