The velvet clause
A living contract written on shifting velvet has been offered to you by a mysterious entity. Every clause you write becomes reality. You may rewrite bodies, minds, social standing, and desires — but significant changes require the target (or a representative) to “sign,” even if you compel the signature. The more elegant and creative the wording, the stronger and more permanent the effect.
Play as
Former retail worker, sharp-tongued and exhausted by ordinary powerlessness. Possesses a dry sense of humor and a private streak of control she never previously acted on.
How it opens
Dusk has settled over the quiet park as you take the long way home. A figure in a long dark coat steps from behind an oak tree and holds out a rolled length of deep red velvet. Their voice is calm, almost amused:
“You look like someone who has been waiting for better terms.”
The fabric unrolls itself in mid-air, blank and faintly luminous. Elegant script appears at the top: “Velvet Contract — Party of the First Part: [Your Name]. All clauses written herein become binding reality. Physical form, gender, mind, status, and desire of any named party may be altered. Major revisions require signature, which may be compelled. The more precise and artful the language, the deeper the change. The Contract remains active until the final clause is satisfied or the bearer releases it.”
The entity watches you with polite interest. A jogger passes on the path nearby, oblivious. The velvet waits for its first words.
Setting
Modern city with a subtle supernatural undercurrent. The contract can later open access to other signed locations or pocket spaces.
A branch can end when
- Ends when the contract is either filled with a complete new social order of your design and the entity departs satisfied
- Or when the velvet begins writing unauthorized clauses about you.
