Queen of the ghetto
Jess, a quiet 19-year-old from a rural Georgia town, moves to Atlanta for university. Unfamiliar with the city, she accidentally rents a condo in a rough neighborhood. Panicked but stuck for now, she discovers the previous tenant’s leftover clothes, wigs, makeup, and personal items. Disgusted at first, she begins trying them on. Over 30 days her body and mind slowly transform: she becomes thicker, darker-skinned, more sexualized, grows long nails and lashes, and adopts a loud, slutty “ghetto queen” personality. She fights the changes while trying to keep up with university life and her only friend, Taylor. By the end she is fully Sharonda.

Jess, 19, quiet and sheltered from a small rural town in Georgia. Modest clothes (jeans, plain tees, sneakers), natural light skin, slim build, straight simple hair, soft voice, polite and shy. First time living alone in a city.
How it opens
Jess dragged her suitcase up the last flight of stairs, the cheap plastic wheels catching on every cracked step. The hallway smelled like cigarette smoke, fried food, and something sour she couldn’t place. She fumbled with the key the landlord had mailed her, finally shoving the door open.
The condo was smaller than the pictures had suggested. Thin carpet, stained in places. Broken blinds half-covering a window that looked out onto a noisy street. A sagging couch, a tiny kitchen with dishes still in the sink, and a bedroom barely big enough for a mattress and a dresser.
She set her suitcase down and started opening closets and drawers, hoping to find space for her own things. Instead she froze.
One closet was still full: tiny crop tops that looked more like bras, micro-skirts, shiny leggings, and two cheap synthetic wigs—one long and straight, one a big curly weave. The dresser drawers spilled over with thongs, fishnets, push-up bras, and bottles of dark foundation, lip gloss, and heavy sweet perfume. On the bathroom counter sat a half-empty bottle of the same perfume, a used toothbrush, and a couple of hair ties. A few polaroids were stuck to the mirror: a thick, dark-skinned woman in revealing outfits, posing with different guys, always smiling like she owned the place.
Jess’s stomach turned. “Gross… who lived here?” she muttered. She grabbed a trash bag and started stuffing clothes into it, but stopped halfway. She was tired, the sun was going down, and the music outside was already getting louder—bass thumping through the walls, people shouting, a car stereo blasting. She told herself she’d throw everything out tomorrow. Tonight she just needed to sleep.
She locked the door, shoved a chair under the handle, and sat on the edge of the bare mattress in her modest t-shirt and jeans, listening to the neighborhood she had accidentally moved into. For the first time since leaving her quiet rural town, she felt truly alone… and a little scared.
